RE: New Window Detect application

Recently I've found myself more and more frustrated with newer program menu designs. Having to navigate through the forest of links or remember a silly longer short cut for a single application isn't so bad but if we only used one application to do EVERYTHING life would be great toungue

But it's not....

SO I thought about making life easier and went about making an application that would know what I was doing and help in some way. Window Detect is a very small application (less than 200kb or < 1/2 MB) in size, uses less than 6MB Memory/RAM and 0%-1% CPU.

The application when running detects any program or window you have open at the time and lists them with application title and exe path for the program, you can then select create menu files for each application.

What does the menu do?

It's simple, Whatever short cuts you use most often you can assign to a single button (7 buttons available at the moment) to be shown automatically in Window Detect as your using the program. Window Detect supports single key short cuts such as "F3" or combo's as complicated as Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Delete+F7 !

No matter what the combo short cut is you can assign it too a single button! Usually this would mean having to navigate BACK to the program you where using but that's not the case as after pressing a button you've created for a program it will automatically send you back to the program so there's no additional navigating!

There is no limit on the amount of application menu's you can store and more buttons will become available as the project progresses. Lots of people are already using this application and design is an issue if you don't like the "default look" so.... Window Detect has a built in "skin" function where you can create your own skin to theme Detect Window with and load it for use.

Creating a skin is simple as it's all done from a single JPG file you can edit in any number of image editing programs. Below you'll find a template file for creating skins as well as soon pre-designed I'm using myself.

One additional feature I find handy is not having to relocate a program window if I close and re-open it, So Window Detect gives you the ability to set the program where you want it to be on your desktop and save the position in settings. Each time after Window Detect will open in that exact location smile

The program itself will soon be realised in a blog edition occupied with the below templates and any newer ones.

Those who have the ability too can ask me for the program now if wanted.

Additional themes I've created for use myself, These can be saved and directly loaded as a skin as they are smile

Use MSN Messenger? Sick of trying to send someone a picture but then opening shared pictures instead because of a super sloppy system??? So am I.... Window Detect is able to short-cuts so does MSN have a short-cut for it??? Listed - No , After much trawling...Yes

Short-cut for send file is:  ALT + L + F   blank face

Yes that's right, MSN decided that using the Menu invoke key (ALT) for a combo was a good idea wall

Again... wall wall wall

EVEN trying to use this combination manually on the keyboard invokes menu to be shown it's only if you keep pressing the combo like your having an epileptic fit will it work after flashing the menu on and off lots of times.  I can't have Window-Detect bombard MSN with continious key combos until it works because...well...just not , I've decided to leave feedback directly from the combination help page

http://help.live.com/help.aspx?mkt=en-us&project=WL_Messengerv9&querytype=keyword&query=egassem

My own feedback wrote:

I'm developing a program called window detect which captures applications in use and allows stored applications to have menus to be shown automatically when any program is in use. The menu gives the ability for the user too tie any short-cut combination key as a virtual event from a single key press with focus set automatically back on the program. This program is already being used by hundreads of people and 1 request I'm unable to do anything about is MSN Messengers very silly short-cut combination keys.

You've assigned all major short-cuts to ALT key events forcing main menus to be selected on a event rather than a key combination, this goes for manually attempting such short cuts also. For example ALT+L+F  to send a file sprites menu on first ALT press. Only by mashing the short-cuts several times will it eventually work.

How can it be that an OS developing company can have such bad design flaws in such a common used application?!?!?!  My name is ***** and my email address is *******

I hardly doubt they'll take notice but how this can be is simply beyond me and maybe if enough people complain something will happen...

RE: always on top feature

it would make this app A LOT more useful if i could set it to always be on top of other windows. that way when im working in a window maximized i can have it off to the side and be able to use it. without "always on top" i have to switch to it, and then when i click button it switches back to the window i was working in, and to use app i have to keep alt-tabing or clicking taskbar to switch to it.

Small screens have a habit of crippling working on a computer but it's something I can look into if people want this in general.

Window-Detect has had over 500 downloads in the last 24 hours and is already ranked in Google in multiple top 10 places from get this...

Results 1 - 10 of about 11,200,000 for Window Detect. (0.19 seconds)

what your saying is on a larger monitor you rather maximize a whole window to take the entire desktop even though it only uses a little section in the middle... Opposed to running the window in a size for the page and have access to other stuff also.
